Gifted midfielder Rashid Nortey has been rewarded with a debut Black Stars call for his fascinating form in the second half of the Ghana Premier League.
Nortey will join a star-studded midfield that has Arsenal man Thomas Partey and Ajax big money investment Mohammed Kudus as well as Abdul Fatawu, Emmanuel Lomotey, Baba Idrissu and the evergreen Gladson Awako of Great Olympics.
The Medeama man has five goals and three assists in the Ghana Premier League but his gift is his press resistance and passing range when under pressure and his call up will give national team handlers a chance to have a closer look at what truly makes him different.
Nortey, 25, has been growing from strength to strength since signing for Medeama some three seasons ago and recently received a call up to the local Black Stars.
According to sources close to the national team- Akonnor has been so impressed with Nortey’s passing range and technique that he is willing to throw him in the starting eleven even though they are some big names that he will upset.
The Accra born midfielder has been tipped for greater things and his latest call up is proof that his game is on the raise, he recently broke the passing record for any player in the Ghana Premier League.
GHANA GAMES
The Black Stars will play Morocco and Ivory Coast in June after the 2022 World Cup qualifiers scheduled for that month were re-scheduled for September.
The game against Morocco will take place in Rabat on June 8 before the Black Stars face Ivory Coast at the Cape Coast Stadium on June 12.
Akonnor hopes the games will provide the perfect replacements after the world cup qualifiers were stalled but crucially as well allow him to spend vital training days with his players at the end of the regular season.
The Black Stars are pitched against South Africa, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia on the way to Qatar.
